RICOWI Launches New Website &
Hurricane Investigation Teams Ready To Roll

RICOWI is pleased to announce the launch of its newly designed website. This dynamic, database-driven concept is a major improvement over the old static configuration.

Chairman Rick Olson stated “the new search engine makes the site easier to navigate and users can now review past seminar power point presentations by clicking on the seminar resource archive tab.” All Sponsor Members have direct links to their respective sites. The calendar contains dates for code hearing and industry conferences. The past hurricane and hail investigation reports can be downloaded free of charge. RICOWI’s Website Committee plans to post a new photo library that will contain photos from past wind and hurricane investigations. In addition, a bibliography of wind and hail related documents

RICOWI has eight hurricane investigation teams ready to deploy should a hurricane with a wind speed of 95 mph (1 minute sustained), or greater, make landfall in a populated area in the continental US. Logistics Coordinators Robb Smith and John Goveia advised that they are tracking the three named storms in the tropics (Hannah, Ike & Josephine) for possible deployment and will continue to track storms through the end of hurricane season, which is November 30th. The Climate Prediction Center’s 2008 Atlantic hurricane season outlook calls for six to nine hurricanes and two to five major hurricanes (Category 3 or greater). Once an event is triggered, the logistics team will be on site the day after landfall to evaluate the type and extent of damage and set up potential investigation sites for the teams. Check RICOWI’s website for updated information.

RICOWI's fall membership meeting will be held on Monday, October 6th at the DoubleTree Guest Suites in Charleston, SC. The fall seminar will be held the following day. Details are posted on the website.
