On Wednesday, August 30, 2023, Hurricane Idalia struck Florida's gulf coast as a Category 3 storm. While Idalia met RICOWI's definition of an "event," after further investigation, the RICOWI Storm Investigation Program (SIP) leadership determined a deployment is not necessary.

The Roofing Industry Committee on Weather Issues, Inc. (RICOWI) has announced deployment of research team to Cape Coral, Florida to investigate damage from Hurricane Ian. The teams will be conducting the investigation from October 24, 2022 - October 28, 2022.

The RICOWI Foundation, Inc. has been officially recognized as a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit. The Foundation's work of industry research is important to the future growth and direction of the building community which includes academia, industry, contractors, code officials, specifiers, insurers and general consumers.
[RICOWI's] reports greatly affect the industry, with the Metal Construction Association (MCA) relying on RICOWI reports and other research to fulfill its mission of promoting the use of metal in the building envelope through marketing, education, and action on public policies that affect metal's use.
